Dear Brothers and Sisters:
This committee in the
coming weeks, months and years we will try to find ways to unify
Local 86 into a cohesive organization. We will try to recognize
the total diversity of Local 86 members, not only the minorities,
females or people of alternate lifestyles but the total membership.
We have many members who have exemplary talents and knowledge.
As Union Brothers and Sisters we must learn how to share and develop
these exemplary talents with the other members who may not have
been blessed or trained. If any of our membership has undesirable
work skills or personality defaults we must find coping skills to
help them overcome their problems.
The task this committee
is trying to accomplish is not easy. Our union is large and
non-homogenous. Our homes are from the waters of Lake Ontario
to the rolling hills of Wayland, from the apple orchards of Williamson
to the muck land of Batavia. We have farmers, urban dwellers
and many suburbanites. Our political beliefs range from the
Cro Magna to Ronald Reagan to Barack Obama.
This committee will try
to teach the members of Local 86 what this union is all about.
We will try to inform you of what rescources are available to the
membership as well as what your obligations are. We will list
the different committees and sports clubs that you may join.
We want you to know who is who in the local. If a member or
members are working on a special or outstanding construction project
we will inform the membership. If your son or daughter is
doing something special we would like to publish it in our newsletter.
If there is a dealth of a member we would like to inform the membership
of the details of the wake and funeral arrangements in a timely
manner. If all things go right we would like to start a yearbook
of the members.
On the jobsite we must
learn how to relate to each other. We need to share our money
and time saving techniques with each other. If you have an
idea to save time or money and if you are willing to share your
ideas you should be rewarded financially somehow. We must
learm how to work more effectively and not harder.
This committee needs your
help. We cannot do it alone. Some of the naysayers laugh
at our dreams. Some say that the things that we want are pie-in-the-sky.
These things have been tried before. Well Brothers and Sisters,
I am a dreamer too. Sometimes, I dream dreams only a dreamer
can dream. I dream that one day Local 86 will show the rest
of the world what a united diversified workforce can accomplish.
I dream that one day we will be the most skilled trade in the United
States. I dream that one day there will be no more tears or
crying because of the lack of unity or caring. Brothers and
Sisters, one day we will work together as one on the pathway to
wealth and security.
Coming soon I will have
lists of the different sports teams and committees that you can
join.
Your brother,
Putney Nix
